Welcome

Our family therapy practice specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of developmental disorders, abuse, trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder, and elimination disorders in childhood and adolescence. These disorders are among the most challenging to treat, often with limited success. Therefore, we have combined our experience and expertise with the goal of offering our client families the "fresh start" they deserve as they pursue a higher degree of functioning and stability... Jeffrey E. Foster, M.S.,M.A., L.M.F.T., S.U.D.P.T, Director, Master of Science in Clinical Psychology, Stanford University; Master of Arts in Developmental Disorders, San Jose State University. Adjunct instructor of psychopathology, tests and assessments, human sexuality, and human growth and development at George Fox University, graduate school of clinical counseling. We also provide court ordered custody evaluations, reunification counseling, therapeutic supervised visitation, and expert witness services. For criminal court we provide evaluations and expert witness services for defendants and witnesses who may be experiencing mental illness.

The most common developmental disorders that are referred to our practice include Autism Spectrum Disorders (Asperger's, PDD-NOS, Autistic Disorder), Tic Disorders (Tourette Syndrome, Chronic Motor or Verbal Tic Disorder), ADHD and other disruptive behavior disorders (Oppositional-Defiant Disorder, Conduct Disorder), Reactive Attachment Disorder and cognitive delays.

We also accept referrals for abuse, trauma and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder treatment and prevention therapy for children who have been, or are suspected to have been sexually, physically or emotionally abused, or have been exposed to accidents, illnesses or loss of significant family members or friends.

We are one of the few programs in the region providing organized, multi-modal treatment for elimination disorders (enuresis, encopresis) both in our offices and in-home. With the consistent, coordinated application of behavioral and medical treatment, based on advances in the understanding of these disorders, many children and families experience success that has eluded them for months or years.

A comprehensive functional assessment is utilized with all cases. This consists of a complete history, observations in natural settings (home, school, preschool, daycare, recreational and sports activities, etc.), formal testing as needed, consultations with referring physicians or other professionals, and review of previous assessments and treatments. Results of the assessment, including treatment plan, are then forwarded to the referring professional. Our team approach emphasizes the involvement of the referring physician or other professional in all phases of assessment, treatment planning and evaluation of progress. This is accomplished through frequent communication and monthly written progress reports. As client advocates, we monitor all aspects of treatment to ensure continuity of services and to address potentially unmet needs.

Families are already faced with a multitude of normal challenges in helping young people to grow up  with a basic sense of well-being. We are dedicated not only to reducing the negative impact of developmental disorders, abuse, trauma and elimination disorders, but, also helping to preserve family unity. Family resources can be quickly strained and exceeded as parents, siblings and relatives strive to cope and provide the best care available for these challenges. Conjoint family therapy that supports all family members in helping each other to face their challenges and to enjoy their relationships can be an essential resource.
